Finished Emergency

April 7

I have just finished reading Emergency by Neil Strauss. It was a very entertaining book, but  to be honest I couldn’t wait to get through the las few pages so that I can start on my newest book purchase!

EMERGENCY – “This book has the slight possibility of maybe helping you to save your life one day.”

April 4

I’m at HHRay’s house, waiting for him to get back from work and doing a bit  of work on other projects. I am also reading Emergency by Neil Strauss. Its catchy tagline is “This Book will Save your Life” should really have been “This book has the slight possibility of maybe helping you to save your life one day.”

Marley & Me

February 12

Reading Marley & Me. It’s funny and I love Grogan’s writing style – but his treatment of his dog is shocking at times.

Natural Harvest – A Collection of Semen-Based Recipes

December 8

I promised someone that I would write about this. And actually, I think if I had stumbled across this earlier I would’ve written about it anyway!

It’s a self-published Lulu book called: Natural Harvest – A Collection of Semen-Based Recipes.

I’m not kidding. That’s what it’s called.

The description is as follows:

Semen is not only nutritious, but it also has a wonderful texture and amazing cooking properties. Like fine wine and cheeses, the taste of semen is complex and dynamic. Semen is inexpensive to produce and is commonly available in many, if not most, homes and restaurants. Despite all of these positive qualities, semen remains neglected as a food. This book hopes to change that. Once you overcome any initial hesitation, you will be surprised to learn how wonderful semen is in the kitchen. Semen is an exciting ingredient that can give every dish you make an interesting twist. If you are a passionate cook and are not afraid to experiment with new ingredients – you will love this cook book!

I have no idea if the author is joking or not. I sure hope not, because that makes it so much more funny! I want to buy the book just to find out what the crap you could possibly make with semen of all things, except for babies of course.

Some of the comments on the page are quite hilarious as well, along the lines of:

I received my copy of the book last week. It took me and my partner all week to stock up for last night’s intimate little dinner party.

what a good idea. I freeze mine and feed the iceblocks to my japanese girlfriend and presto no more pimples….great side benefit

I bought it and tried the spoon-n-toss cookies as a surprise for my wife. She gobbled one up really quickly but I just can’t get her to swallow them. On the bright side, she said she was willing to try another batch next weekend.

WTF? Yeah, I don’t know either.

Avoiding Mr Right

November 23

I’ve been going through a ‘trashy novel’ stage lately. No, not the kind where every second page is a sex scene. The kind where every 10th page or so is a sex scene :P. Not really, I’m exaggerating. Basically they’re books about cheesy relationships. Right now I’m reading Avoiding Mr Right by Anita Heiss and it’s proving to be quite good! It’s an easy read, so when I read it I just relax.

BookSwim – Good Idea

November 1

I knew good ideas don’t stay original for long. I had an idea to make an online book library of sorts – where people would get to borrow books for a small price. Well, apparently it has recently been done!

BookSwim is a web site which lets people ‘rent’ books for a fairly cheap fee. I’m really regretting not acting on this idea when I first had it :(.

If You Wrote a Book About Your Life…

October 2

After not having blogged in so long I’m finding it difficult to get back into the swing of things. I’ve been reading a lot – and by a lot I mean a lot. I’ve literally barely been able to put a book down whenever I have a free minute. My current almost-finished book is God’s Callgirl by Carla Van Raay. It is an autobiography about a woman who goes from being a nun to a prostitute. It’s quite interesting with some very boring parts inbetween.

Reading autobiographies recently has reminded me of a commercial for the Army I saw in the U.S. when I was still living there .The main slogan was something like – “If you wrote a book about your life, would anybody bother to read it?”

If I wrote a book about my life, would it be interesting enough for people to want to read? Honestly, I think so. And if not yet, it will be eventually.

Garth Nix – The Old Kingdom/Abhorsen Trilogy

August 21

I’m working on some stuff for a presentation tomorrow and my brain is refusing to cooperate. Hopefully the internet will be up when I try to publish this post – must remember to copy the text first just in case. Anyway, I’ve decided to make a quick post.

I rarely read books in the same series one after the other. For example – I read the first book in the award-winning series by George R.R. Martin – A Song of Fire and Ice (the book was called A Game of Thrones).

I am now reading a book from a series called The Old Kingdom Trilogy by Garth Nix (known as the Abhorsen Trilogy in the U.S.). The book, specifically, is called Sabriel. I remember reading this years and years ago, but barely even remember the plot anymore. This is what I like about my forgetfullness when it comes to books – I can finish reading and then start all over again in no time with no idea as to what the details of the books are. I also remember reading the second book in the series, called Lirael – I think it was my favorite, can’t wait to curl up in a chair with that one.

Nix’s ideas just seem so original to me – and I’ve read lots of fantasy novels, it’s my favorite genre along with self-discovery. His plots revolve around a whole new type of magic and he builds his world to seem so solid and real.

Back to work for me, but this series is definitely a must-read for any fantasy lover.

Birthday, Flowers, and Books

August 15

This is my second day being 20 and I don’t feel any different. I can’t be bothered describing all the events of my birthday yesterday, but they involved flowers, waking up covered in rose petals, Fremantle, restaurant, and having HHRay be nice to me the entire day!

Today I woke up at HHRay’s house by myself :( It was weird – I assumed he was at uni, but he didn’t pick up. I didn’t even know how long he’d be gone. I watched a bit of Lord of the Flies and left for home. Except I couldn’t resist stopping by the book store on the way and bought 4 new books. I really need to stop – I have so many books now that I haven’t even read yet, I don’t need any more! Well, 3 of the books I bought I had read years ago – but they were too good I just had to have the series – Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen.
