Google – Constant Malware Warnings

January 31

HHRay is getting weird results happening with Google. Screenshots below. Each time he tries to click on a google page from google search results he gets a malware warning. At first we weren’t sure if it was a problem with Google or if he’s got malware on his PC as this article seems to describe, but then we checked and the same thing is happening to my iPhone when it’s on HHRay’s wireless connection or the 3G connection.

And now when I search for something from my iPhone directly under the green link that comes up under search results is another link – “This site may harm your computer”. This isn’t happening on HHRay’s PC. I have no idea why this google malware warning is coming up all over the place and we can’t find anything when – well – googling for it – talking about this, so not sure what’s going on. I’ve never actually run into this before – maybe I’ve been living under a rock?

Life With an iPhone

January 21

Looking back on my iPhone purchase, I certainly don’t regret it. At the same time, however, having an iPhone – a little mini computer with 24/7 internet access – is a weird feeling. I feel much more connected to everything, but it’s as if I’m living in one of those virtual worlds where nothing is real.

I feel more connected to the other internet and iPhone users of the world through Safari (the iPhone’s default web browser) and applications like WordPress, Twinkle, Nimbuzz, AroundMe, and more. I can download new apps any time I want and I can find out the weather at the click of a button. I can even get un-lost with the Google Maps app.

At the same time, I feel less connected to the simpler real life things. Even on my morning walk from the bus stop to work – I pay less attention to buildings and trees and the things around me and more attention to what’s going on with my friends on the internet or even with strangers on Twinkle.

Party Pooper

January 17

HHRay is a party pooper. We were driving around his neighborhood looking for free wireless and found this connection with a printer available. It was too weak for us to really use, but we decided to try connecting to the printer and seeing if we can print out a funny message. Well, HHRay was too impatient while figuring it out and drove off just as we were almost there.

PS: HHRay is actually a barrel of fun.

Update from just a few seconds ago: we are now sitting in his car in front of his mom’s house, carrying out our evil plans. Muahahahaha

In love

I am officially in love with the iPhone. This is all.

Digital Photo Frames

December 3

Christmas is fast approaching and so are my Christmas holidays! I’ve been thinking about getting a digital photo frame for someone as a gift (I can’t say who as I never know who’s reading this!) It wouldn’t be a regular gift, but a themed one – that is, I would present it with a certain purpose in mind – dog photos! Someone ;) just got a puppy and imagine how great it would be to have photos of the puppy from its youngest days to adulthood cycling through in a digital frame!

Some photo frames are more fancy than others. The Ceiva photo frame, for example, can even accept photos from mobile phones, e-mail, etc.! Ceiva is currently running a giveaway called Got a Wish Sweeepstakes, in which one participant’s wish is granted each day until Christmas. You even get to upload your own photo to be in the online Santa commercial they present for it. Unfortunately I’m unable to enter because you have to be a U.S. resident. Bugger.

I’ll have to see if they’re selling this frame anywhere in Australia (and the pricing, of course, with the financial issues we’ve been having at work I can’t spend a bucketload!) I know they sell some other photo frames at Dick Smith Electronics, but they’re all crap! I would know – I used to work there. Unless they got some new stock since then.

Freo,HHRay,Mobile

November 17

Yesterday was a very good day. I spent a few hours in Fremantle with Boris for lunch and window shopping. I then came home, walked Keeda, and went to HHRay’s house. It was very nice ;)

Oh I also got a new phone because I got tired of being mobile-less! It’s a Nokia 2600 Classic:

Vostro Going Through Surgery

November 2

Last night HHRay helped me reformat my computer – not the EEE, the Vostro. We decided that it was time for this when I tried playing Guild Wars and got weird display errors – on my second attempt I got the dreaded blue screen of death.

So we reinstall Vista and start ‘er up for the first time. And get the blue screen again! HHRay first suspected that it might be my RAM – the second possibility was that the computer was overheating. The fan hasn’t been cleaned since I got it (I know, I need to be more responsible).

We start picking apart the laptop (which took ages with all the screws and clips) and indeed: the RAM stick is partially out and the fan is completely clogged! We patch it up and start her up again and yay – runs like a charm! Some photos from the surgery:

Phones, Shoots, My Time

July 30

I’m tired. This is the first day this week that I’m actually sleeping in my own house and not HHRay’s. On the one hand I miss the cuddles – on the other it’s nice to sleep in my own bed.

I had so much to write here just a few hours ago, but now I can’t think of anything that I think is worth it. Had a great shoot this past weekend with totally awesome people – will post photos when I can be bothered. Learning python – slowly but sur…-slowly. Reading a great fantasy series and working.

Is it bad that I can’t remember the last day (including weekends) that I could sleep in and bum around the house by myself, in my pajamas? It is good to keep busy, but I think I need a me day – with no parents in the house, nowhere to go, and nothing to do.

Oh, I got a new phone – Palm Centro – which Telstra was kind enough to unlock for free for me (whereas the usual unlocking fee is $100). It’s nice, although I’m not a fan of the way the operating system looks – making a new theme for myself now using zLauncher.

Also, I am now using Crazy John’s as my service provider – no, it’s not as lame as I expected. And the guys who work there were really dedicated. They needed ID to sell me a prepaid sim card so one of them actually offered to drive me home to get my passport! Unfortunately we got lost on the way to my house (which is really saying something about my sense of direction as I literally live 5 minutes away from the shopping centre) and came back – but they sold me the sim card anyway so I’m happy. Oh I also got a Micro SDHC card, which I was assured is the same thing as  Micro SD – but it doesn’t fit in my phone’s slot :/

I tried joining 3 first, but they claimed that my phone was not a 3G phone – which is ridiculous as the Palm Centro so obviously is.

A(nother) Update

December 31

Well, I haven’t had much time to blog lately. I never seem to be home anymore! Here’s another update on the last couple of days. Yesterday we went to the Melville markets and it was awesome! In fact, I got inspired. I’ve decided to try growing my own plants and selling them there. I know I won’t make a living out of it, but I bet it’ll be fun :). Also, on the way back to HHRay’s, we stopped at a garage sale and he landed himself two awesome computer cases (one of them brand new!), two motherboards with awesome CPUs, and a power supply. All for only about $50! So when we got back to his house we spent the rest of the day putting one of the computers together. He even spray painted a CD drive he put in there to match the case. And I must say, it’s a beauty. Right about at that time I got another inspiration – I’ll buy computer parts online and sell them in the paper. Or better yet, I’ll buy computer parts online, build computers out of them, and sell THEM in the paper! Of course, they won’t be top of the range computers, but there are so many students who could use something with mediocre specs.

The bad news is my old scanner doesn’t work with Vista :( XP drivers.
