New Job

April 7

I started a new job this week. What I’ve mostly been doing is reading up on everything I need to know throughout the day, but I also got to do a bit of HTML editing. I’m meant to jump deeper into it tomorrow. It’s tiring to cram my brain with all of this stuff each day, but I’m learning some really fascinating stuff. It’s pretty amazing.

No Temp Work

January 8

Ugh, I haven’t been able to find a temp job yet :( Everyone I contact says they need someone who can work over a longer period of time than I am able to. Still keeping fingers crossed for my recruitment companies to find something.

Canine Police Inquiries Answered

December 30

I sent off an inquiry to the WA Police recruitment center regarding how long it would take one to get into the Canine Police after going through the Police Academy. I got a reply the next day, saying that I have to complete the 12-18 month probation period after the Academy. He also said that it may be possible to take one Dog Squad pre-selection courses straight after the probation, but sometimes they require a bit more experience first.

The qualifications that one is recommended to have when applying are high level of motivation, decisiveness, good oral ability, ability to take charge, and high fitness level

I think the only one that may be a thorn in my side is the high fitness level – simply because of my knee.

I then replied asking how often an vacant permanent position with the canine police actually opens up (as their FAQ said: After this probationary period, an officer may then apply for a vacant permanent position within WAPOL.

And he said that it was difficult to say. He said that there is not a high turn over so it could be straight away or somewhere down the track, depending on when existing staff leave. Also, there may be more than one person applying for one vacant position, which would make the selection process more difficult.

Overall, I’m willing to deal with that and am seriously considering this.

Canine Police

December 29

I’ve been rewriting my resume and thinking about jobs that I’d like to do in case the time to find a new job is suddenly upon us.

And then it came to me – Canine Police. Before jumping the gun, I read more about the canine police and right now it really seems like this is something I’d really, truly, honestly be very passionate about. Western Australian canine police work with their assigned dogs, keep the dog at their private home, and play a huge role in training their dogs. Both the people and dogs train together – the people on how to handle and treat the animals. This is so exciting. There are only 2 setbacks for me:

1) Each recruit has to have a manual driving license. Even if it’s only their Ps. This may be a tedious process, but I am positive that I can get this.

2) Each recruit must undergo a physical examination – I am not sure if my knee would be a problem with this.

3) Am I too old? I’m turning 21 in 2009 – I’m not sure if that’s too old to enter the police force!

I have decided that if I can find someone who has a manual car and would be willing to teach me how to drive it and practise with me, I would be happy to get my manual license before I get a car. I just have to find a person!

Mind Matters

November 20

I’m at HHRay’s house using his computer.
We went to help out his mom’s best friend tonight, something with his TV or something of the sort. I wasn’t really paying attention – the friend is a psychiatrist and I saw an interesting looking book on his coffee table. He let me read through it while HHRay worked on the TV.

Let me tell you, this book was so interesting. I only got to page 20, but I just love reading about how the mind works. The part I found especially interesting was when the author started to delve into how our minds affect our bodies – unfortunately we had to leave soon after this topic was brought up in the book.

The book reminded me of the time I was considering becoming a psychologist and kind of ‘inspired’ me. I know nothing will come of it, but I’ve been looking at Murdoch University courses and such. It would be a long road, but well worth it I think. Of course, these are just empty dreams right now :). I figure there’s no rush – nothing wrong with learning this when I’m older and a bit more settled on my own. Besides, who knows what will happen in a few years?

P.S. I’m sipping out of a 1.5L Lipton Ice Tea bottle as I type this. It’s big.

GHD Stylers, Bars, and Adventures

June 22

Updates updates updates. I was so tired once weekend came around that all I wanted to do was lay around and sleep. Except first, I wanted to go to this awesome bar and unfortunately that didn’t work out due to stupid bus schedules and time difficulties :( This has got to be like the 4th or 5th time in a row that I’ve missed going to this particular place and it sucks.

Last night HHRay’s family and I went to Paddo’s and I loved it. The Cheeky Monkeys were playing, it was the first time I’d ever heard them, and they were awesome. Unfortunately HHRay absolutely hated it there so the two of us left early – it was a bit of an adventure getting back to HHRay’s using public transport, though. I won’t go into details, but let’s just say it involves being lost, public urination, freezing, and taxis.

I definitely want to go back there again one day, though – the atmosphere at this place was totally different from a normal club. People are a bit older therefore more mature – everyone’s having a grand time, smiles at everyone else, it’s a really homey atmosphere. Oh and when you try to squeeze through the crowd people actually move aside for you unlike in a club – where everyone bumps into you as if on fricking purpose (it’s a huge pet peeve of mine).

I did something very bad – I invested in a GHD hair styler. I had a choice – either the Pure white styler from the limited edition line or the Dark black one – I went for black because I had read that the white one rusts easily and such. I thought HHRay would kill me when I told him – and for a minute there it really seemed like he would. But then he saw how happy I was with my $319 impulse purchase and his heart melted a little (I hope he doesn’t read this because if he finds out the actual price of this thing his heart will freeze up again like an icicle and I’ll really be in trouble then).

I slept for most of the day today and feel almost fully rested now. I think I’m ready to go back to work tomorrow, just need to make sure that I get a good night’s sleep tonight.

A Big Update

June 10

It’s probably time for me to write something here.

First, a huge apology to everyone who’s e-mailed me about this blog in the past couple of weeks. I probably haven’t replied to you. The truth is, I’m a bit too busy to blog right now. I think I already mentioned my new job, but I honestly can’t remember and can’t be bothered looking back. So I’ll go over it again:

I got a new job and started the week before last, on Tuesday. Well, that’s when my trial day was. I got unbelievably lucky with this position, it being in the gaming industry, as it’s Perth – and Perth is dead when it comes to gaming. Not only that, but I also got lucky that this one real gaming company that’s in Perth does not totally suck. In fact, it’s really awesome.

What do I do? I work as a QA Tester – there’s two of us here in Perth and we basically communicate back and forth with the testers who work for the same company in China and Brazil. Every day is casual friday and there’s free juice in the fridge. That and the work is challenging, but not totally mind-numbing (yet), so I’m feeling like I’m getting a handle on things. It makes me think and pay attention, which is good, but it’s also not excruciatingly impossible/irritating/whatever. In other words – I actually like what I do and don’t complain when I wake up at 7 in the morning and get home at 7:30 to 8 at night.

I do come home quite tired and HHRay has been very understanding and nice about this. He doesn’t complain that I’m not at my most energetic state when I see him and has handled the transition from being able to see me whenever he wants to being able to see me whenever I’m available very well. I very much appreciate how he’s handled the situation, it’s made it much easier for me. I want to think of a way to show him I appreciate him (telling him this and buying him chocolates doesn’t cut it anymore).

I have a couple of photoshoots coming up soon that I’m very excited about. I can’t wait.

JB work has diminished because I simply don’t have time to do the shifts anymore. I haven’t done a single shift since I started my new job. And not working for them once in 3 weeks is a rarity for me! I’m not disappointed – sure, I miss the friends I made there and I won’t get to see them as often as I used to due to the hours, but I’m simply too preoccupied with other things to give this much thought.

That’s it for now – my lasagne’s getting cold.

Ruby Room & V8s

May 10

Had a shift at the Ruby Room last night, with the bus. It was great. The bus was totally packed almost the entire time and by the end we didn’t even have time to give people tours of the bus because all everyone wanted was polaroids. Shame, they missed out on our awesome empty jacuzzi.

V8s today. I hope the girls who are doing the main event are OK in the rain – it’s pouring down here, thunder and lightning and everything. Not extremely heavy, but pretty darn bad. I’m going to the V8s in a little while with 2 other girls to do the bus again. At least we have cover, I hope the girls don’t get drenched and cold in the rain :(

Eyes…Drooping…Closed…Sleepy

May 8

I’m at my mom’s work, doing some casual data entry shifts. I am so unbelivably tired from last night’s JB shift that my eyes are seriously drooping closed and I can’t open them! Mom brought me some tea and cookies into the office to wake me up a bit so I’m taking a short break.

Last night’s shift was awesome, we were getting swarmed with people and had to switch going between the venue and talking to people to the bus, which was right outside. Back and forth we went. We also got to draw the winner of the JB model car and the guy who won was so nice. I’m so glad he won that thing, he was seriously the nicest guy there – a 45 year old English teacher. He gave everyone roses that night, before winning, and S and I got one each. Apparently he always wins all the random draws at that venue. I bet it’s karma.
