Just like my laser eye surgery, featured posts are also a-go. I downloaded a handy featured posts plugin and tested it out on my Rottnest post below. The plugin automatically picks an image to use and, of course, it chose the funniest of the bunch. Now I don’t have the heart to change the featured post to my introduction as was the plan originally. There’s no snuggie photo in my introduction post. In fact, there’s no photo at all in there.

I’ve been wanting to change my permalinks from the default post ID links for months. When I started this blog I knew nothing about SEO or how ugly the default permalink structure was.

Below are the plugins I’ve tried to implement 301 redirects from the old default URLs to my preferred version: /%category%/%postname%/

• Advanced Permalinks
• Dean’s Permalinks Migration
• Permalink Redirect
• Platinum SEO Pack
• Redirection

None of these plugins worked. I kept getting 404s when changing the default permalink structure.

I wasted all that time trying to work out how to change my permalinks that I didn’t realize it would be so easy. I edited my .htaccess file to just say this:

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d

Then I changed the default structure in WordPress. And Voila. Everything magically worked. Finally.

After a long, long, long slumber – I am back. I am now running two blogs and it feels strange. I feel that only one blog can be my home, but the other blog is 100% anonymous and I’m trying to force myself to make it stay that way. Anyway, I’ll get a little feel for what it feels like to come back here and see how it goes. Personally, I pretty much couldn’t care less as to who reads this anymore because I don’t have to see that person every day (finally. I’ve been waiting for this time to come for four years now).

Some updates:

1) I’m in a new job, which I’m very much enjoying.
2) I finally moved out of home
3) I am helping my boyfriend to house sit his mom’s house when she is on holiday for a week
4) I just realized that I’m sitting here typing this in the office while I have a little bit of the lemon pie I had for lunch stuck to my lip. Darn it, I hope nobody saw.

One of the many minimal, placeholder posts to come. Listening to Imogen Heap. At work. I guess now I can just make up all kinds of stuff and nobody will know if I’m actually telling the truth here or not. I could say I’m in the middle of Perth in some dark alley right now and because my phone lets me post blogs, I could actually be anywhere at all.

This site went down for about an hour due to a person whose opinion of it, I’ve realized, holds no value to me whatsoever. I’ve decided that this person seeing this site isn’t something I need to care about. The money I get from this blog far outweighs how much I actually care about them visiting this site. Frankly, what they think makes absolutely no difference to me or any of my readers.

And if there’s something I do care about, I can password protect it with the click of a button. If you run across one of these password protected areas, you will need to contact me directly to gain access.

When things are going to get settled down with them, I don’t know.

It’s 3:36AM and I’m up, finishing up this WordPress 2.7 Upgrade. It was horrible. I never want to go through this again, even though it was all my fault.

I accidentally deleted the wp-content folder when performing the manual upgrade to the newest version of WordPress. I then spent hours trying to find backups, getting support from my host (Thank you so much for all of your help and support, Chad – if that’s your real name), uploading backups, downloading backups, wanting to punch corrupt backups in the face, etc. 

Finally I miraculously found three Fantastico de Luxe backups, one of them being from this blog. So thankfully I got most of my data back, but the backup was from December, meaning I lost my recent images and themes and it will take me absolute ages to find and upload them all again.

But at least it’s over and done with and I never have to worry about a manual upgrade again.

Just kidding.

Actually, this is just to say that I’m about to start upgrading to Wordpress 2.7. May experience a bit of downtime. Hopefully not, but I’m not making any promises. Crossing fingers, wish me luck as I step into the new WP generation.
